Compassion lies at the heart of the teachings of both Hinduism and  Islam, as it also lies at the heart of other great religious  traditions. It is my heartfelt hope that recognition of this  fundamental shared principle will be grounds for Hindus and Muslims  to overcome any sense of wariness they may feel about each other and  develop a fruitful, trusting relationship. The time has come for  followers of the world’s great religions to work together to create a more compassionate and peaceful world.
