Saints and Seekers: Bawa Muhaiyaddeen

Bawa Muhaiyaddeen ?-1986

Bawa Muhaiyaddeen was a Sri Lankan mystic who  eventually came to the US to teach the Sufi tradition. He established a center in Philadelphia and had a large number of Muslim followers as well as Hindu devotees.

For those of us who have faith in God alone, there is only one teaching. Whatever religion we belong to, whether it be Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity, Judaism, or Islam, and whatever prayers we say, what is it that we are really searching for? Only one thing – that treasure which is God.

Peace, unity, and equality…when we are in one place, when we live in one place, eat in one place, sleep in one place, disappear in one place, die in one place, when our final judgment is given in one place, and when we finally join together in heaven in one place, that is unity.
